Mariners

Mariners extend a $23.15 million qualifying offer to Randy Arozarena

If you follow the Mariners, the offseason is on. The team extended a qualifying offer Monday to Arozarena, who is expected to reject it and seek a multiyear deal. Turning down $23.15 million is a nice problem to have.

$23.15 millionvalue of the one-year qualifying offer for 2027

Players have until Nov. 17 to decide. Arozarena is one of eight players who received the offer.

Arozarena, 31, is coming off a career-best season with a 5.9 offensive bWAR, No. 5 among all MLB hitters. If he rejects the offer and signs elsewhere, the Mariners get a compensation pick in the 2027 draft. A deal of $50 million or more would put that pick between the first round and Competitive Balance Round A.

  • Claimed: right-hander Isaac Mattson, from the Pirates
  • Reinstated: seven players from the 60-day injured list
  • Outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma: five players who cleared waivers

The Wrap

Ruston's Unicorn Sports Bar reopened Monday, Nov. 2 under new owners, Gary and Nathan Wescott, the father-and-son team behind Odd Otter Brewing Co. in downtown Tacoma. They're calling it a "super soft opening," with a limited menu and hours, and they'll run the bar as-is through the end of the year before a remodel. A dive bar caught in its natural habitat, then.
