COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Friday morning, a bald eagle landed in the middle of SR512 in Puyallup while cars sped by; trooper Martinez arrived shortly after 7:45 a.m. and safely removed the uninjured bird — it flew away when he got close.  KOMO

CRIME NEWS

  • A 17 year old Spanaway boy was arrested by Puyallup police on first degree robbery, assault, and firearm charges for shooting at a teen on a Pierce Transit bus on Dec. 22, 2024—multiple shots were fired and no passengers were hit, and a search of his home uncovered evidence linking him to another shooting on Dec. 12.  KOMO
  • Pierce County deputies arrested a second teenage suspect on April 18th at 10:00 p.m. in Des Moines—he is linked to a March 29th house party shooting in Spanaway that killed two teens and injured several others.  KOMO
  • A federal jury convicted Luis Esquivel-Bolanos (known as Colorado) on drug trafficking and gun charges, linking him to drug shipments on tribal lands in Eastern Washington and Montana and setting his sentencing for July 16th.  KOMO
  • The Better Business Bureau warned consumers and businesses that scammers are using phishing emails and fake websites to trick people into paying non-existent tariff fees—if someone asks for money, it is a scam.  KOMO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Puyallup School District will hold in-person graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2025 at the Washington State Fairgrounds and stream them live on YouTube on June 13 and 14 at several high schools including Walker High School (5:30 p.m.) and Puyallup Digital Learning (7:30 p.m.) on June 13 and Puyallup High School (9 a.m.), Rogers High School (1 p.m.) and Emerald Ridge High School (5 p.m.) on June 14. The district will also host its Advance and Gateway Programs celebration on June 11 at 6 p.m. at Pioneer Park Pavilion (livestream details coming soon).  Puyallup School District

HEALTH NEWS

  • District nurse Yolanda Sommers was awarded SNOW's Save a Life Award—recognizing her quick action during a cardiac emergency last December that saved a student's grandparent.  Puyallup School District
