CRIME NEWS

  • Damien Madison, 27, appeared in a Las Vegas courtroom on May 19 after being accused of shooting at sheriff's deputies during a car chase near Tenino — he fired multiple shots that pierced a patrol vehicle — and Washington law enforcement said they have 30 days to extradite him.  KOMO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Puyallup School District is recruiting community members, educators, and parents to serve on the 2025–26 Student Attendance Success Board with a weekly commitment of 1–3 hours. Interested applicants must apply by June 9 and will attend an orientation in mid-September before meetings begin on October 1 either in person, virtually, or by phone.  Puyallup School District

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Washington has banned feeding deer, elk, and moose to help prevent the spread of disease and reduce safety hazards, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. The rule went into effect on May 17 and also makes it illegal to place any feed that causes these animals to gather — a measure to keep wildlife and drivers safer.  KOMO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Oct. 1, 2025, Washington will raise the annual Discover Pass price from $30 to $45 — the law signed by Gov. Bob Ferguson will use the extra funds to pay for park trails, staff, and maintenance. This change marks the first price increase since the pass was introduced in 2011.  FOX 13
