  • Governor Bob Ferguson signed House Bill 1296 (the student rights law) on May 12, ensuring students can share sensitive information safely while critics say it limits parental access to student records, and schools must update handbooks by later deadlines.  KOMO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pierce County Deputies union said county leaders offered a 10% raise over three years—well below the roughly 30% higher pay seen in neighboring agencies—and advised members to seek work elsewhere for fair compensation. Sheriff Keith Swank criticized the executive for delaying a better proposal and warned that the move could worsen the staffing shortage.  KOMO
