ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Crews from East Pierce Fire — the local fire service — responded at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 27 to a brush fire near Lakeland Hills Way Southeast in north Lake Tapps that caused power outages; by 11 p.m. the fire was under control with no evacuations or structure damage, and Puget Sound Energy had restored power for affected customers. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Construction crews at Fruitland Elementary have advanced sitework to build new underground systems that will manage stormwater and improve safety at parking and bus loop areas as part of a Capital Levy project. Families will begin using the Kessler Center for bus drop-offs this fall while the project—supported by detailed planning—continues through summer to ease congestion on Fruitland Avenue. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday, leaders of the Tanggol Migrante movement launched a national alliance to support Filipino migrant workers facing rapid detentions and deportations. The group—made up of former detainees and their families—criticized both US and Philippine officials for not protecting their rights and vowed to demand immediate action. FOX 13
