COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Washington State Fair kicked off Friday in Puyallup—marking 125 years with a drone and firework show and a food drive that benefited the local food bank. Organizers said the 20-day fair features live music, fun rides, a new 1900 Food Hall & Rooftop Bar, and free entry for kids 18 and under on Labor Day weekend.  KOMO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Drivers face a 38-mile detour after a semi-truck severely damaged the SR 410 White River Bridge connecting Buckley and Enumclaw on Aug. 18—WSDOT is installing steel braces as a temporary fix and cannot give a reopening timeline.  FOX 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the Puyallup School District introduced its 2025-26 School Board Student Representatives — Benjamin Burch from Emerald Ridge High, Chiamaka Lekwauwa and Amanda Xing from Rogers High, and Elliott Mann from Puyallup High — who will attend board meetings and offer feedback to shape school policies.  Puyallup School District

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sound Transit postponed choosing a new CEO amid criticism over a potential hire of King County Executive Dow Constantine—who appointed most decision makers—as the Board faces a $30 billion construction gap from rising costs. Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell said efforts to expedite key light rail routes continue while local owner Laurel Trujillo worries her tap house may be at risk from planned route changes.  KOMO
  • The USS Nimitz, a nuclear-powered carrier from Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton, returned on July 2 after completing its final mission in Bahrain and underscored its role as a symbol of Pacific Northwest pride. Captain Doug Graber said the crew maintained readiness—celebrating with a steel beach picnic that boosted morale during its deployment.  KOMO
