On Friday, November 7, locals marked 85 years since the Tacoma Narrows Bridge—known as Galloping Gertie—collapsed in 1940 when strong winds made its deck twist and break apart, with no human lives lost though a three-legged dog named Tubby was trapped in an abandoned car and engineers later used the disaster to improve bridge designs.

SNAP benefits for November began releasing in Washington on Thursday—by Friday over 250,000 households received their full allocation scheduled between November 1 and 7.
